WHAT IS OUT IN THE OPEN?
Youth homelessness is epidemic. Over 22,000 teens face housing instability in Chicago – up to 40% of whom identify as LGBTQ.
With brutal funding cuts looming for shelters and agencies, it’s time for Chicago to stop closing our eyes. OUT IN THE OPEN is an all-night charity event to raise awareness and money to help these nonprofits support Chicago's most vulnerable.
Our city’s nonprofits support our youth on the front lines. Individuals and teams can select from our list and register through the AIDS Foundation of Chicago:
The 750 Club Apartment Adoption Project | AIDS Foundation of Chicago | Broadway Youth Center, Howard Brown Health | Center on Halsted | Chicago Youth Storage Initiative | El Rescate | La Casa Norte | LYTE Collective | New Moms | The Night Ministry | Pride Action Tank | Teen Living Programs | Unity Parenting
From toiletries to coats, see what Chicago’s youth shelters desperately need to stock up for winter. Each item in Out in the Open Outfitters symbolizes what your donation could mean to a kid on the street. Find out more
We need volunteers to help in advance of the event to get the word out, and also at the event itself to help coordinate activities on site.
